The Hunger Games hype has spread globally, and there’s one name on everyone’s lips – Jennifer Lawrence. The 21-year-old is playing the fearless Katniss Everdeen, the lead in the film adaptation of the bestselling novels, which is released in cinemas this weekend.
As a skilled hunter who has grown up on meagre rations of food in District 12, Katniss is slight but powerful, slim yet strong. So how did the 21-year-old get into shape for this action-packed role?
There were no hunger games at play as Jennifer refuses to diet. Speaking to Life and Style magazine, she said: “I’m miserable when I’m dieting, and I like the way I look. I’m just so sick of these young girls with diets.
“I think it’s really important for girls to have people to look up to and feel good about themselves.”
Instead Jennifer worked with a trainer to build her stamina so she can run, hunt and climb through the woods just like her feisty character Katniss, and lost eight pounds in the process.
Jennifer revealed: “There was running training, stunt training, combat training, archery. It was all really fun, but filming in North Carolina in 100-degree heat and 100-percent humidity in cargo pants and leather boots and a jacket was tricky.”
