Focus on Harley Pasternak’s Five Factor Plan

If you’re looking to get a body like Rihanna or Katy Perry, there’s just one name on everybody’s lips – Harley Pasternak. The personal trainer is the man the A-listers head to when they’re looking to shape up or maintain their figures even while they’re constantly on the go.

As these stars are so busy they don’t always have hours to spend slaving away in the gym, which is why Harley’s plan is so effective. His five factor plan is based on five small meals a day and a 25 minute workout five days a week, formed of five x five minute exercises.You even get one cheat day a week where you’re allowed to eat whatever you fancy.

I love the idea of this plan as it endorses grazing on small meals that balance low GL carbohydrates, healthy fats and lean proteins to maintain blood sugar levels and avoid insulin spikes. The workout sounds challenging while remaining short enough to realistically fit it in to a busy daily routine, and if Rihanna and Katy Perry are anything to go by…it works!

The whole five factor idea may be a bit gimmicky but the principles behind it are simple – commit yourself to eating well and exercising, and who knows, you too could get a body like RiRi. With just seven weeks to go until my holiday, I think I’ll be putting it to the test!


0-5 mins: Cardio warm up (jogging, skipping, cycling…)

5 – 10 mins
: Arm exercises – toning moves including press ups, tricep dips, chest flys and bicep curls with light weights.

10-15 mins: Leg exercises – squats and lunges

15 – 20 mins: Ab exercises – sit ups, plank, side planks, the Superman move (lie face down on the floor with arms stretched out in front, then raise arms and legs up at same time)

20 – 25 mins: Finish off with another five minutes of cardio.
