Detox detreat in Spain

Saturday Crunch

So, yet again it’s been a while since I posted the Saturday Crunch but I’ve been on holiday and pretty much stayed in holiday mode for the week after my return. Now I’m back into my routine and full of ideas for the blog!

This week saw me start my proper half marathon training plan. With less than 14 weeks to go I’ve created my full training plan adapted from the one sent to me by Macmillan – it looks pretty intimidating! As you can see, I’ve followed it to the letter this week and by tomorrow will have run 14 miles plus some cross training.

I’d been looking into doing some pilates moves as a supplement to my running as I read that it’s a good way to strengthen your core and stretch out the muscles. Many of the DVDs I saw had mixed reviews, but then I stumbled across Blogilates, a blog from fitness trainer Cassey Ho. Her POP Pilates videos are great for quick, targeted workouts, so I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for quick bursts of strength and toning exercises.

Having some time away on holiday gave me a lot of time to think and I’m really passionate about building munch up even further. It means a lot to me seeing my blog traffic keep growing and I’m really grateful to everyone who takes the time to read and comment on my posts!

I’ve been brainstorming new ideas for interesting content and a key factor is that I want to post more recipes to the site. I’m hoping that this will be a good motivator for me to break out of a bit of a meal rut I’ve gotten into lately and perhaps also provide you with some inspiration for healthy meals! I also want to try and write more fitness related features as that’s obviously a big part of healthy living!

As always if there’s anything else you’d like to see on the blog please let me know.

Anyway, enough about me and on to some of the top health and fitness reads of the week –

Is stress making you bloated?
Is stress making you bloated?

Journalist Martha Alexander regularly gets uncomfortably bloated so visited a range of specialists including doctors, a nutritional therapist and acupuncturist for diagnosis. A common issue they all detected was stress – could stress be the factor behind your bloating? (Daily Mail)

In this feature Merope Mills from The Guardian talks about her detox at a spa in Spain – with a five day juice detox and daily enemas it doesn’t sound a barrel of laughs but I’d love to go on a health retreat!

Not reading related but if you didn’t see it on Thursday night, I’d recommend watching this week’s BBC Panorama special about the myths of sports products. So many people rely on them pre and post exercise, or even for some energy during a long day at the office – but are they actually effective?

Watch it on catch up here.

We’ve spent so much time moaning about everything that’s gone wrong with the Olympics that it’s easy to overlook the good things that London 2012 will bring to the UK. As FitSugar point out, the incredible sports facilities built for the games will be sticking around after, and many for public usage. Maybe I’ll try to remember that when it takes me three hours to get to work next week…

If you’re catching up on what I’ve written this week, I’ve shared my thoughts on the latest diet craze to hit the UK – ‘Six Weeks to OMG’, put Boot Camp In A Bottle to the test, talked about the five-a-day myths and shared tips on how to cut down your sugar intake.

I’ve also written a feature about Candida for The London Word recently, check it out here.

What do you have planned for the weekend? Mine’s going to involve a lot of running, relaxing and selling my unworn clothes on ebay!
