Superfood Spotlight: Baobab

A ‘superfood’ that’s slipped under the radar until recently, Baobab is an African fruit that has been loved by locals for centuries. The fruit comes with some impressive nutritional stats including more Vitamin C than oranges, more iron than red meat and a wealth of alkalising minerals including calcium, potassium and magnesium. In short, it definitely deserves the tag ‘superfood’, but what can it do for you?

Promote a healthy digestive system:

Baobab powder contains a high level of digestive enzymes and prebiotics that will enhance the growth of probiotic bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. A crucial defence against health problems including Candida Albicans.

Give an immunity boost:

The Vitamin C and prebiotics in Baobab will help to boost your immune system.

Support a healthy nervous system:

Baobab’s high potassium content helps to support the nervous system, especially if you drink caffeine, alcohol or eat foods high in sodium, as these can all deplete the body’s potassium levels.

Provide an energy boost:

Thanks to its very high levels of Vitamin C and malic acid, Baobab has strong energy-yielding properties. It helps to improve the body’s utilization of food so it is efficiently converted into energy.

Optimises iron uptake:

Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron into the body, and Baobab contains high levels of both, which means it is particularly effective for increasing iron levels in your body. This could be particularly beneficial for people who are anaemic or vegetarians and vegans who may not eat many dietary sources of iron.

With so many health optimising benefits, we’ll definitely be trying Baobab! Have you heard of or used Baobab before?

If you want to try Baobab for yourself it’s available in our store now.
