Like many people I love experimenting with new meals in the kitchen. However I’m sometimes put off from trying new recipes when it means I need to splash out on special ingredients and spices that will probably only be used once or twice before being forgotten about in the cupboard.
This is where SimplyCook come in, a subscription box service that delivers recipes and ingredients for four meals to your door, so you can cook up an impressive feast without the need to splash out on special ingredients.
I was recently invited to trial the SimplyCook, and as a true convert to the food subscription concept (I’ve tried Graze, Saviour, Bonjour French Food and more), I was keen to give it a try. I requested a box that only contained vegetarian and fish dishes and was pleased to see the ingredients for Yellow Thai Fish Curry, Grilled Halloumi and Courgette Salad, Butternut Squash Risotto and Mushroom Penne in my box.
Each meal comes with a selection of pastes, stocks and spice powders, along with a step by step recipe card and shopping list of other ingredients you will need to buy. For the Thai curry this included coconut milk, white fish and mange tout – all things that are easily found in the supermarket for not too much extra expense.
I found that the recipes were easy to follow, and all produced an impressive meal within half an hour. The ingredients that come within the box are all perfectly portioned out so there is no waste and even the most amateur chefs can cook a delicious dinner.
The SimplyCook concept features a range of boxes including the Discovery Box, packed with recipes and ingredients from around the world, and the Healthy Box, with meals that are low in calories but still taste delicious. At £10 for a monthly delivery I think it’s a great budget-friendly way to try something different in the kitchen each week.
